Brilliant Planet has an exciting opening for an experienced and ambitious project management professional to manage the engineering, construction and commissioning of our first commercial-scale facility for the extraction of beta carotene from algae biomass. Our R&D team have identified a novel process for the extraction of pigments from algae using a method that significantly more straightforward than long-established industry norms. Your role will be to deliver this bench-top process at industrial scale, managing the overall output from internal teams, external consultants, supply chain and construction delivery partners. You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of this important asset from FEED stage to selection of equipment vendors and contractors to testing and commissioning on site.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in the project management of similar facilities with demonstrable industry experience in project management of projects in similar size, scale and complexity. You will be given a high level of autonomy and responsibility from day one therefore your ability to embrace a broad scope of responsibilities and drive forward the project within an entrepreneurial environment is important. You will be part of the Project Management Office and will work closely with all other divisions & departments, in particular the Science and Engineering Design teams. Responsibilities include:
- Oversee all aspects of the Processing Facility project, ensuring that it is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards through regular and collaborative progressive assurance processes.
- Develop project plans and schedules, using project planning tools to ensure that the project is well-organised and that all tasks are completed and changes are managed in a timely manner.
- Manage project teams, including internal staff and external consultants, ensuring that everyone is working together effectively towards project goals and requirements.
- Monitor project resources and budgets to ensure that resources are managed effectively, identifying any potential issues early on and working with the team to resolve them.
- Establish and maintain high standards of information management, ensuring that all project documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to team members with a single source of truth.
- Lead engagement with external consultants, administering the consultancy tenders and contracts from initial prequalification stages to completion
- Demonstrate adoptable leadership skills, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Actively engage with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships and ensuring that their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Drive efficient and sustainable delivery solutions to reduce embedded and operational carbon as well as CAPEX and OPEX whilst ensuring Health and Safety are of paramount importance for all stages of asset lifecycle
- Support risk management through the development of risk registers, monitoring mitigation actions and escalating issues appropriately
- A degree in Engineering, Project Management or similar relevant discipline and be qualified with a relevant professional institution
- 10+ years direct leadership experience in the delivery of food-grade or pharmaceutical process facilities in a relevant industry, from design through to commissioning
- Demonstrated senior level experience in managing external relationships with strategic process engineering partners, commercial scale contract manufacturers and construction partners
- Experience with project planning, resource management and budget control, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting, utilising industry norm project management tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with partners and stakeholders at all levels
- Must be comfortable implementing novel processing techniques for niche markets
- Desirable experience working on overseas projects in developing countries
- Confident, articulate and proactive individual with experience of working in multi-disciplinary, collaborative and multi-cultural delivery team environment
